£3,000 bond for Visitors to the UK

From November 2013 if you want to come to the UK as a visitor, the Government plans to introduce a controversial pilot scheme effective initially in the following 6 countries:

  • India
  • Pakistan
  • Sri Lanka
  • Bangladesh
  • Ghana
  • Nigeria

If you are coming from one of these countries, you will be required to pay a bond of £3000 which will only be refunded to you once you have left the UK and returned to your home country.

Shafana Mudasar, Partner and Head of Immigration at Prolegis has confirmed the scheme will be introduced as a pilot and which will no doubt effect thousands of applicants travelling to the UK each year. The trial visitor bond scheme appears to be inherently discriminatory and the level of the bond which will be introduced for visitors is high.
